"Endgame:The Calling" is the first book of the trilogy "Endgame". The story is about twelve players from twelve different bloodlines who have to fight each other to death, in order to save their bloodline from the end of the world. This "game" is set by the sky people (some kind of gods) who give clues to the players in order to find the three keys that will determine the winner. The players have been trained from their predecessors how to survive in difficult situations and how to kill. All of them don't exceed the age of 20 years old.
The cover of the book is one of the best I've seen; golden with words in different languages in the background, black letters that contrast the gold colour and the symbol of endgame. The symbol is well thought. With a compass-looking circle outside, since the players get to travel a lot. An eye that probably symbolises the sky people checking the players and inside the eye are two snakes, tangled and biting each others tail in which the snakes are the players. The hardcover under that has a total black color with golden letters on the spine of the book.
The marketing of the book was well done, since not only is its cover appealing but, the book includes a riddle that whoever solves it (until December 2016) can win thousands of dollars. Moreover, it has FOUR sponsors: full fathom five, Niantic Labs, 20th Century Fox and Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Also, it has an active website with additional content being uploaded and it's going to become a movie.
The book reminds me a lot of the "The Hunger Games'' series since there are twelve districts (not bloodlines) that fight with each other to death with the difference that every district has two representatives. In addition to this, a love triangle similar to the Hunger Games' one takes place in Endgame: The Calling.
The story of the book was interesting but I don't think that I would get the rest of the series. The book was written by two authors: James Frey and Nils Johnson-Shelton, which may be the reason why the writing in the book is a bit poor, in my opinion. Although I didn't like the writing style, there were some pages that I think were good enough. Lastely, the development of the story was easily predictable.
All in all, I don't regret reading this book, I actually enjoyed it but, I'm not really enthusiastic about it. This is my opinion on the first book of the Endgame series.
I hope that you find it useful. Keep in mind that this is my personal opinion and I don't want anyone to adopt it unquestionably.
